Beautiful Spots in Nagano (Part 1)

Updated: Jan 29, 2022

Nagano prefecture (長野県, Nagano-ken) is known for its beautiful mountains and architecture. It has a lot of places that people can visit any time of the year.

Here are some spots that I visited in Nagano:

Kamikōchi

" A painting in real life!"

That's what I said to myself the first time I visited this place. The enchanting beauty of Kamikōchi has captivated me.

It was the Golden Week of 2018 when I first visited Nagano. I had a 7-hour bus ride from Osaka to Matsumoto city. Then, the next day,

I went to Shin Shimashima Bus Terminal and took a bus to Kamikōchi.

Early morning is the best time to go there. Whew! It's a long way, but it's worth it!

Then, I went back to Kamikōchi in the summer of 2020. It was a year of chaos, and it was depressing, most especially for someone who's away from her loved ones.

The magic of this place has healed me. Seeing the beautiful Azusa river, with the surrounding mountains and trees, made me feel better.

Besides the place, the sweets here also gave me power!

If you're tired of the city and need a place for healing, Kamikōchi is one of the places you must visit.

Kurobe Dam & Tateyama Snow Corridor

How would you feel if somebody asks you to go and see a dam?

Well, when someone asked me to visit a dam, I wasn't excited at all. "What can I do there?" I thought.

But yes, I'm in Japan, and this country can make anything extraordinary.

So, in 2018, after my Kamikōchi tour, I visited Kurobe Dam.

It's the tallest dam in Japan. It's also one of the most popular sightseeing spots in Nagano.

From Kurobe Dam, I went to Tateyama Snow Corridor via Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route.

I had to ride a cable car, ropeway, and a trolley bus.

It was May, so I was quite surprised by the amount of snow here. It's the snowiest place I have visited so far!

It was a great experience!
